Two female students at El Fasher University said that to combat the systematic rapes in Darfur, often used in raid and military actions, there is need for arming women as they currently have no protection.

This does offer an interesting possibility, however also to be considered are concerns involving who might get those weapons, how to train the armed women so that disarmament in attack is less likely, and the strong possibility of this tactic merely adding fuel to conflicts in Darfur.
