SPLM Rebels Gun Down 30 Sudanese Soldiers

The Sudanese People's Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N) has claimed responsibility for killing 30 Sudanese government soldiers during an ambush in the city of Khor Adrak in Blue Nile State on Saturday. In an interview with Radio Dabanga, SPLM-N spokesman Arno Nuguthulu also stated that the organization captured or destroyed several armored personnel carriers. Nuguthulu went on mention that "The SPLA is now in control of all areas of operations in Blue Nile State and South Kordofan." Fighting in Blue Nile has been ongoing since the beginning of September and has been an early stain on the diplomatic relations between the north and the newly formed sovereign southern state. SPLA members have argued that fighting has increased due to government attacks on civilian targets, most notably an incident where eight bystanders were killed in the Corey area of Blue Nile State. SPLM-N has stated that these civilians had no direct links to their organization.
