Sudan will leave Abyei when UN fully deploys

Sudan and South Sudan still occupy the vital oil city of Abyei. Further, the tensions between the two states are beginning to boil around the lucrative city.

Presidents Al-Bashir and Kiir, of Sudan and South Sudan respectively are meeting in Khartoum in the coming week to discuss issues. High on the agenda is the issue of Abyei.

Sudan's UN Ambassador has stated that Sudan will withdraw its troops as Ethiopian peacekeepers begin their deployment in Abyei.

Both sides were suppose to have already withdrawn their troops, but of course that has yet to occur. Hopes are riding high on the ability of Ethiopian peacekeepers to precipitate the withdrawal.
